Fort Canning Park
For folks who wants to know more about the background and history of Singapore, especially on the surrender of the British to the Japanese in World War II, this place not only offers a glimpse into the above but also provides a nice stroll and a hideaway in the middle of the concrete jungle.
The tour of the Battler Box is a must. It visits the Underground Far East Command Center of the British Army and brings you 9 meters underground. The war time era is recreated inside the bunker with some interesting wax statues of army generals in command and background voice overs. The feeling as you traverse the path leaves an eerie and solemn feeling inside you.
Good shoes are a must. There are unkempt areas and slippery nooks in the park so you will need to be careful. If your hotel is around this area, you simple must get your morning run here and the gentle hills are perfect for that high intensity training regime. It helps when along the way you can enjoy the floral & the plants as well as hearing birds twittering away.
